“Perfect for Corporate Offsites”
Our team of about 50 overworked people from San Francisco and Boulder needed a quick, refreshing and team-bonding getaway in mid-November. Someone suggested Moab, and I started doing my research. It was a little scary to not do a site visit first, but Moab isn’t the easiest place to get to from the Bay Area on a commercial flight for a group of 50. I crossed my fingers, said a prayer, and made all of the reservations.
We decided to double up in rooms to stay in the nicest place we could find within budget. Sorrel Ranch had a nice-looking website, so I started there.
They were very quick to respond to my emails. The responses were just about right–not overbearing; to the point; very gracious. They also offered to organize the bulk of the trip (which I should have taken them up on at the get-go), but as the control-freak that I am, I insisted on coordinating things on my end.
Unlike our urban jungle, Moab is a very small town–everyone knows each other. When I finally asked them to help me with ground transportation and activities logistics, they put me in touch right away with a local car service and activities center.
Throughout our stay there, they coordinated with the activity center and ground transportation to ensure everything went smoothly. Chef Henry served up a positively FABULOUS breakfast and dinner buffet. The food was fresh, delicious, perfectly cooked and portioned. They even packed generous “to-go” breakfast and lunch boxes in the cutest portable coolers for our journey back to the airport!
The staff were so friendly, courteous, helpful, considerate, and attentive. Every single one! I don’t think the manager, Zach, slept while we were there. My team was up until about 1am each night playing board games in the main lodge (nerds!), but he was always accessible, looked fresh, and was in the most cheerful of moods. The tour guides, Ed and Tyler, were wonderful. They were both very personable, intelligent, experienced, and considerate. I will definitely request them again when I return.
I overslept The walls are a little thin–I could hear the people in the next room walking around through the connecting door, and the hardwood floors amplify the sound. The medium/firm bed was dressed in layers of comfortable linens. There were a generous amount of clean, fluffy pillows. The air quality was perfect. The cellular shades blocked out most of the light into the room.
The main lodge grounds and rooms were almost spotless. I didn’t notice any random hairs, dust bunnies, or dead bugs. There were four tiny mold spots in the shower caulking. The fixtures (shower, sink, tub) were new. All of the paper products had finish folding.
The Ranch is a 30-min windy drive from town and cell service is basically non-existent. The free wi-fi signal on the property was reasonably strong throughout. So, if you’re looking for a semi-isolated retreat, this is it! (YAY!) If you need something within walking distance to shops and restaurants, this might not be it. There is a gas fire pit at the main lodge that was fun and comfortable, even in the November rain! I didn’t get to enjoy the outdoor hot tub, but my teammates made good use of it and looks like they had a great time.
I stayed in a River View King suite. I had a breathtaking view of the Colorado River, just steps from my front porch where I enjoyed my morning coffee and was treated to a bald eagle flying by! I normally don’t take baths in hotels, but I could not resist the claw-footed spa tub. I squeezed in the entire tube of bath gel, filled it up 1/8 of the way, fired up the jets, and was besides myself wallowing in a massive froth of bubbles 2 feet deep. Who doesn’t love bubbles?
I didn’t have a chance to enjoy the spa, but if it’s anything like the rest of the property, I’m sure it was fine. The outdoor hot tub looked great, and the masseuse I met was adorable.
The scrambled eggs were perfectly cooked (my pet peeve with most breakfasts), everything was hot, delicious, fresh, and perfectly seasoned. The presentation of the food was also beautiful. Everything was delivered on time.
I cannot wait to come back with my family!
