Official Moab events seem to take a bit of a hiatus in August. That’s not to say the tourism dies down. There’s obviously still plenty to do, the rocks are still crawling with Jeeps, and Main Street is still hopping as the sun sets. But the formal events ramp down during the heat-swelled month. This minor attenuation has at least one noticeable, awesome effect: Fall Rocks.
September, alone, sees a resurgence of events as varied as an artists’ studio tour, the Moab Music Festival, a world-renowned sky diving festival, a camp out and safari, and a GLBTQ pride festival. And it keeps going from there. October has more events including the third of three annual half marathons.
It seems in Moab, as the summer heat breaks, the organized happenings burgeon, and flourish. And especially this year. Sorrel River Ranch is happy to be participating in many of these events again, either as a sponsor or partner or destination. And we make it easy to stay up to date with all the goings-on with our events calendar.
No matter why you’re visiting Moab, if you’re lucky enough to be doing so in autumn, you’re in for a schedule-stuffing treat.]]>
What’s on your bucket list?
Sub-question: Are your bucket list items actually realistic?
It seems that lately many people’s bucket list items are getting more and more quixotically extreme. Best wishes to you if you’re hoping to cross off “Sky dive into an Icelandic volcano while watching the Northern Lights”. But what’s wrong with adding an item to your bucket list that, while still being something to write home about, is actually an attainable goal? What’s wrong with using your bucket list as a checklist of things you can do, you will do, and that will make your life more rewarding? How about sky diving into a gorgeous four-star resort surrounded by a cinematic landscape of red rock mesas and towering buttes?
Moab, Utah can act as a bucket list purge for so many people. Whitewater rafting, Zip lining, rock climbing, sky diving and more are all featured activities here. This has been documented so well, so frequently, and recently. Moab’s luxurious Sorrel River Ranch Resort and Spa can act as a bucket list purge for even more people. Yes, we offer all the aforementioned adventures as well as extravagance and accessibility. People don’t often think about breaking their bucket list up into categories of Adventures, Relaxation for Self-Fulfillment, and Family. But we argue that bucket list organization and obtainability can help you cross those perennials off, facilitating a more complete and satisfying life. To us, this is important.
Our resident Bucket-List-Subtraction Expert (also known as our Adventures Concierge) helps guests eliminate items like:
Ballooning. I want to ascend to greet the sunrise as I drift among geologic wonders that were being created when dinosaurs roamed the earth. The fragile sandstone of Arches National Park and precarious rock towers will drift past, each one defying gravity with me. Across the horizon, the 13,000 foot La Sal Mountains will cast a long shadow upon the town of Moab and Canyonlands National Park. The pilot and the winds navigate me to my own personal destination, my mind and camera alive with images that will last my lifetime – and beyond. √
There’s something to be said for having items on your bucket list that you truly want to do. And there’s something to be said for going on a life-changing vacation to a destination that lets you fulfill so many of them. Whether it’s that sky dive, or just making absolutely sure that you take some time for yourself with a riverside massage. Whether it’s a horseback ride through the same trails ridden by John Wayne, or blazing a trail of glory in an ATV on a sand dune. Whatever your bucket list items are, let us help you cross them off. After all, you have a lot of life left; you have to make room for more.
When people talk about “desert life” it’s often saguaro or bright prickly pear cacti, or the greenery around a rare river oasis. It’s not often “desert life” is thrown around with terms like “farm-to-table” and “modern American cuisine”. It’s not easy developing the ground – and the discipline – conducive to a lush, lively garden in the middle of the high, red rock desert. But when it’s possible, when the right talent, desire, and ingredients come together, the result can be glorious. And delicious.
At Sorrel River Ranch, we have put ourselves into a position where the literal and figurative fruits of our labors are benefiting our guests more and more. This summer we are utilizing our gardens, farm and greenhouse, in conjunction with our location on the banks of the Colorado River to provide unequaled dining events. We have begun weekly Farm-To-Experience dinners where guests can see their food growing before it’s plucked, prepared, plated, and positively savored. When ingredients come straight from the farm to the palate before your very eyes, it’s easy to miss the in between steps, but impossible to miss the fresh flavors bursting forth. Fortunately our team is focused on both. We understand that before the “-to table” portion of “farm-to-table”, we need to concentrate on “farm-to-chef”, “farm-to-idea”, and “farm-to-fine cuisine execution”.
And then, of course, comes “-to table”. Or, more accurately, to a gorgeously-set table along the majestic Colorado River where the feast is accompanied by live acoustic music. Farm-to-A perfect evening. Farm-to-Fond memories of friends and family, laughter and fun, wine and – of course – food.

With so many adventure options awaiting at every turn, it’s easy to see why Moab is known for the red rock dust, the mud, the water, and the sweat. But lately there’s been a new breed of adventure traveler showing up more and more. Welcome the luxury adventure traveler. Did you know Moab has a four-star resort with a four-star spa and Forbes-recommended fine dining restaurant? Vacationers are discovering how rewarding it can be to spend all day working on the trail, then – instead of just collapsing in a dirty tent – maybe treating themselves to something extravagant. After all that hard work, what sounds better than a bath in a jetted tub, a riverside massage, and finally a perfectly cooked steak with a glass of wine while an acoustic guitar plays softly under the dim lights?
Sorrel River Ranch is the best of both worlds. The only resort that truly straddles both worlds. We’ve perfected the ability, nay art, of combining adventure with luxury. As a working ranch, farm, and gardens, we get to crouch in the dirt to pick our own vegetables and herbs and take them right into the kitchen. There they’re put into the hands of masters to mold them into culinary delicacies for our River Grill Restaurant. What doesn’t go to the restaurant can be delivered to the Sorrel River Spa to be used in aromatherapy oils massaged into the backs of wary adventurers on the banks of the Colorado River. We know our roots. We happily take the dirt, the water, the mud, and the sweat, and work it through a refinery to create a product worthy of visitors that want to spend their days on thrilling voyages and their nights in four-poster beds with crisp linens. Sorrel River Ranch Resort and Spa in Moab, Utah is the place where luxury meets adventure, designed for the traveler that’s looking for the pinnacles of both.]]>
